Alkindy Group office and showroom by OSO Architecture, Jeddah – Saudi Arabia

The constructional system of the building creates several different sections beside the main curvy corridor of the showroom, where different brands of shoes are sold. So our conceptual design idea was to combine these all separated sections in together with creating special wooden ceiling.

Clearly sequenced, the hundred and eighty square meters are subtly divided, as is often the case with Patchi stores, into separate universes: from an area with presentation boxes and countless other precious containers to the reception area, materialized by a copper desk with natural contours to the chocolate counter with its signature ebony walls.

Everything is smooth, lustrous and sparkling, from the wide black-lacquered reception desk that offsets the teeming colored shelves, lined with the famous anise and black Patchi boxes and the latest multicolored collections to the lighted niches.

Described as one of the largest candy stores in the world, Candylawa, opened recently in the Panorama mall Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Pronounced candylover, this veritable jawbreaker of an undertaking was three years in the making and is a testament to the creativity and determination of the design team at Redesign Group, New Zealand.

Because of the wide range of products and large floor area, the layout has been divided into a series a smaller spaces, defined by changes in flooring and ceiling heights. These space surround a central point of sale area and t-shirt printing station. At the rear of the store is an area dedicated to the clubs long history.

Neutral display areas sit against a background of timber and concrete with the predominant team colours of yellow. High walls support a series of graphics to add interest. Signage to the shopfront is a large illuminated crest.

Oak makes a remarkable appearance in the surprising latticework of a long sculptured element with delicately ridged edges. It crosses the heart of the retail area on the ground floor then seems to spring out of the first floor in a sort of lattice canopy shielding a more intimate area. Blacks here, whites there, ceiling volumes competing with bulkheads, light wells and other relief.
