While making use of traditional wood shelving system to fulfill the optimum shoe display requirement, two walls inside the 90 sq.m shop space was covered by unfinished grey etong blocks with transparent leaf-shaped plexiglass plate clamped onto white powder coated metal tubes in front to mimic bamboo trees.

The two-floor 2000+ square foot New Balance Experience Store is located in Beijing’s famous Qianmen Avenue. The first floor’s décor is inspired by New Balance’s heritage with a nostalgic feel harkening back to the 1950s and 60s.

Shoes are displayed on thin tubes rising from the floor and walls throughout the store. In the minimalist, stark white interior it appears the colourful shoes are crawling over surfaces.

The name ‘Waffles’ is a tribute to vintage sneakers from the ‘70s and a promise to potential customers that their feet are in for a real treat. We wanted to craft an environment similar to that of a candy store. White tiles covering both the wall behind the counter and the counter itself generate the desired atmosphere.

One of six stores we designed for this brand, this is the result of a Brand Spatial Design we developed for Giallo shoe retailer (Giallo means yellow). The design had to appeal to a younger working market and had to convey the dynamism and “wings at your feet” that the brand would offer.
