The client wanted an unusual, eye catching interior to entice foot traffic into the store. Furthermore, care had to be taken to maximise the circulation space and fit the private consultation rooms into the final design.

To give the interior design a unique and personal character, we designed several pieces of custom furniture. We used robust and natural materials that enhance the feeling of the African nature and wilderness. Designing the furniture ourselves allowed us to seamlessly connect the design with the architecture.

The most significant material used in the project is that of the Hulabond aluminum screens. Part of the client’s vision was to have break-way spaces from the main auditorium that would have a visual connection with the campus surroundings.

The client’s brief to Inhouse was to recreate the style of a luxurious New York corporate management office. It was important to steer away from the stark character of Urban Lime’s previous offices.

The design team specifically worked on the centrepiece bar, the bar back shelving and outdoor furniture, and the signage, all sponsored by Striped Horse. The rest of the interior was designed by the bar owner, Jurie Blomerus. The materials and lighting of the bar were chosen to complement the rest of Jurie’s interior’s raw and distressed finishes.

The participating creatives were asked to produce a piece that invites the audience to ask similar questions. The exhibition includes work by Chuma Maweni, Otto du Plessis, Dokter and Misses, Stanislaw Trzebinski and Madida Fani.

Spatial dimensions presented another issue that affected the design process, in that the offices are not overly large. The selected design scheme called for the inclusion of a deep, dark palette to create an air of sophistication.

This store not only welcomes you, it sparks interest and curiosity as you walk past, from the unique white French Paneling details, which can be seen throughout the store, to the dramatically sophisticated dark charcoal back walls with mirror inserts that draw your eyes and attention into the store.

Emphasis was placed on the footwear wall with specific focus on flexibility through the use of a custom peg wall system. By introducing glorifier boxes on the peg wall, various feature products can be displayed alongside brand specific magnetic graphics.
