Exhibit Columbus by Snarkitecture + formafantasma, Columbus – Indiana

For this year’s edition, Exhibit Columbus worked with five international galleries to create installations along Washington street, Columbus’ main artery. Each of these galleries selected one designer from its stable to develop an object or experience that ‘enhances human interaction and connection, and that inspires community conversations about the role of design in daily life’.

The six floor 150,000 square foot space includes a massive indoor basketball court, varied workspaces, a hand-tagged food truck, VIP and workout spaces, a Nike heritage inspired VW van, and a 90-foot long sedum planted Swoosh on the rooftop terrace.

In addition to their new workspace, TPG designed an interconnecting stair to stimulate collaboration and innovation. The client underwent extensive growth in NYC as well as globally, and has nearly tripled in size since move in.

UGG Glitter Sneaker windows by Shimmerwall, New York City

Featuring a blend of summery pink and silver sequins as a backdrop to the distinctive footwear, the bespoke visual merchandising can be seen in UGG’s 28 stores across Hawaii, Canada and the USA, including UGG’s flagship store on Madison Avenue, New York.

Bowlero bar by CallisonRTKL, North Brunswick Township – New Jersey

Bowlero is designed as a retro, hipster-inspired, immersive experience – an escape from the day-to-day. A vintage, 1969 fire-engine-red Ford Mustang convertible, the first of the venue’s many Instagrammable moments, greets visitors at the entrance.

A dramatic stair invites customers to a second floor of gathering spaces, teller desks, private consulting areas and offices. Throughout the space are designs that tie in the brand message including the wood-slat signage with incorporated LED strips that hang above the ground floor community bar and charging station.

Finish Line store by CallisonRTKL, USA

Track lines and negative linear lights overhead drive traffic from the entrance through the store. Stark white features against a dark backdrop creates energy within the space while allowing merchandise and corresponding imagery to take center stage.

REI Flagship store by CallisonRTKL, Washington, D.C. – USA

The use of conventional interior finishes, such as drywall, was purposefully minimized, in keeping with the “gear garage” aesthetic. The architecture and material palette is simple, raw, and utilitarian; the walls are lined with exposed plywood and concrete backer board.

UpSide Craft restaurant by Input Creative Studio, New York – USA

Reclaimed wood continues onto the white pegboard ceiling, exhibiting the use of familiar materials used in unconventional ways. Yellow accents have been incorporated to break up the natural tones and provide punch to the light fixtures and furniture.

The showroom is the most public of the interior spaces, it was designed to emulate an almost home-like atmosphere, including white display cases for coffee-making equipment, books, and promotional items, The room is defined by a hardwood floor in contrasting natural wood and dark espresso stains, and two narrow white countertops that serve as meeting and display tables.

The guests find themselves midst of a Black Forest setting, with the soothing sounds of rushing water and intermittent chirping of woodland birds. The air is cool and misty, the room dark with streaks of light cutting through tall trees, smells of rich soil and wood wrap you; a surreal forest that feels a thousand miles away.

Our solution was to focus on earth tones, muted colors, and warm lighting to compliment the dark hues. Rather than adding loud pops of color, we focused on incorporating varieties of texture in the space.
