Much of the corner in downtown Helsinki’s main restaurant area has been under renovation and several restaurants have now re-opened. Among them is not just the second-floor Le Roy but also Michel downstairs, also designed by Laajisto and owned by the Center-Inn group that operates over a dozen restaurants in Helsinki.

Situated between Clarke’s and Paul Smith on Bree Street – Cape Town’s most up-and-coming retail address – Loom occupies a 58 square metre space that was designed and detailed by Keyworth in collaboration with Tonic Design. The interior features colours and shapes inspired by 80’s postmodernism juxtaposed with knackered and exposed brickwork and wood paneling.

Nanak Emporium by MACh Arquitetos, Belo Horizonte – Brazil

In the center of the emporium, lies a multifunctional structure to accommodate the shopping baskets, up to six people in the chai-café table, plus spaces for products and equipments. The arrangement allows the fluid movement of the visitors.

The building shape emerges from the wind, natural element which is characteristic of the zone. The form seeks to join the metaphysical landscape of the place. The hotel’s image looks like an ancient fossil of a prehistoric animal, stranded on the shore of the lake.
