The Maison Martin Margiela store in Hong Kong has shed its old décor for an adventurous new one. While a pristine white has been retained as its most prominent colour – it has been the fashion brand’s signature shade for years – some dramatic changes have been implemented that give the store an excitingly different feel. The front section, home to the women’s collections, is a clean white space with a back-lit ceiling where the sleek modernity is somewhat softened by classic chevron parquet flooring.

The setting changes dramatically when entering the very heart of the store, where a mirrored ceiling reflects the fluffy carpet with a Trompe-l’œuil motif of disorderly stacked kelims, and which is another nod to Maison Martin Margiela’s creative heritage. An ottoman in matching fabric and a balloon-shaped light fixture are the only props here. Beyond the core the aesthetic simplifies again to clean and white, and it’s here where the men’s apparel, shoe and accessories collections and a concise selection of design objects is presented.
