Brno based Architecture studio KOGAA was asked to redesign the interior solution of a boutique store selling small fashion and interior design local labels. With a low budget and limited space, the designers proposed a solution which combines multiple functions into one unified element. The new store features a wooden podium that acts as a connecting element between two existing areas: the selling space and the backstage. The first visible function of the wooden platform is that of a display surface, extending to the wall as one area for displaying the items on sale. Due to lack of storage in the shop, the whole space under the wooden structure was built to store additional products. On the opposite end of the store, the changing room area acts as a tailor’s atelier, where customers stand on the stage and the shop-owner can check the fit and consult on the changes to be made.
The mirror at the end of the room extends the space and gives additional attention on the fitting moment in the shopping experience. Finally, the wooden platform becomes a selling counter where the customer can sit on the steps while his items are being wrapped and ready. The custom-design object allows for freedom of usage in other unexpected ways, such as catwalk shows, exhibitions or a place to rest. All the store is designed to be experienced as a fluid space with no dead-ends or unusable areas, providing a spacious experience enriched with a few intimate moments. The second design feature of the store is the secret garden. The garden should grow in time, transforming into an urban jungle where hidden objects for purchase can be found.
