In what has now become the world’s biggest luxury market, the beauty industry has shown double digit growth in the past few years. Although foreign brands, notably South Korean, French and Japanese, lead in the upper segment, domestic brands have emerged offering an equally sophisticated product range. It’s in Shenzhen, a major tech hub in China‘s fast-growing Pearl River Delta region, where in 2015 local firm Shenzhen Manyu Cosmectics Co. launched Meunier Tech Beauty, a line of skincare products for women. Focusing on replenishing and restoring the foundation of healthy skin by way of advanced , a beauty salon quickly followed. And now, only five years on, a second venue has bowed in the business district of Bao’an, just south of the city’s eponymous airport. Situated in a glass and steel high-rise structure, the beauty salon occupies a 1,200 sqm. (12,917 sq.ft.) unit and features an understated design by Guangzhou-based architecture practice Domani. At the heart of the salon sits the reception desk and waiting room, and a stellar exercise in minimalism. Clad on one side in floor-to-ceiling glass, allowing views of the city’s skyline, the walls and flooring are clad in concrete and the material has also been used to create an installation of three precast slabs which is prominently featured in the space. Similar to the striking furnishings, including a copper bench with an undulating seating surface and a seemingly levitating counter, it has been created by Chinese design brand A&V. A wide ledge runs along the of the walls and is backlit, and as the ceiling comprises entirely of slabs of mirror, it creates a distinctive spatial effect throughout the premises. Meunier Tech Beauty features nine luxurious, fully equipped treatment rooms which cater to client’s every whim, offering separate storage space for coats, shoes and personal belongings, a coffee table, and of course all the required equipment for a professional beauty treatment, including a comfy bed with a face hole. The Meunier Tech Beauty salon offers a series of facial treatments, ranging from skin cleansing and rejuvenation, to acne removal and reducing fine lines, using state-of-the-art equipment, and of course, Meunier Tech Beauty‘s very own product line. For a more a discerning clientele, a VIP Room is also available.
