Cult streetwear brand Visvim, headed by designer Hiroki Nakamura, first nestled with a standalone store in Tokyo‘s laid-back hipster neighbourhood of Naka Meguro in 2019. As of today, the original 1970s residential structure has been joined by two additional homes which have also been redesigned by Nakamura. Now connected to the premises of the original store, the newly established nucleus of buildings has become home to both the Visvim General Store and separate exhibition space Visvim Gallery. Much of the buildings’ architectural features have been retained, notably the wooden beams, but some spaces have been redeveloped to meet modern retail requirements. Furnishings and fixtures comprise a series of modern interventions, such as the immaculately stuccoed walls and concrete flooring which enhance the structures’ original design and a mixture of both custom-made and carefully sourced vintage pieces. The lush outdoor garden which ties in all three structures has been designed by renowned garden designer Sadao Yasumoro. The new Visvim General Store stocks the Visvim, WMV and Indigo Camping Trailer collections, in addition to items from affiliated brands CONTRARY DEPT, PEERLESS, Little Cloud Coffee and Subsequence magazine. The exhibition programme of the gallery space is to be announced shortly.
