Following last year’s store openings in Shanghai and Beijing, fashion brand Yohji Yamamoto has inaugurated a new boutique in another one of China‘s first-tier cities—Guangzhou. Situated at K11 Guangzhou, one of the city’s leading shopping centres, the retail space features an interior design by Tokyo-based architecture practice OSO. The material palette is inspired by traditional Cantonese temples, such as grey brick stone, and the design avoids curvaceous forms, resulting in a setting which is intentionally pared down and also abstract. The store façade is wrapped in galvanised steel panels decorated with circular holes in various sizes, a pattern based on expressive floral motifs often found in local paintings. The steel panels are angled and folded, adding a visual dynamic to the design. The new Yohji Yamamoto store carries the lines Yohji Yamamoto, Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME, discord Yohji Yamamoto, and Y’s for men. © superfuture
