Already present with two stores in New York City, one stocking a collection of women’s and men’s lines, and the other dedicated entirely to its coveted Pleats Please collection, ISSEY MIYAKE has added a third outpost in SoHo which will exclusively carry the BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE bag line. The Japanese fashion house has secured a 48 sqm. (513 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a five-storey red brick structure built in 1900. The interior design, created by Tokyo-based design studio Moment, is inspired by the traditional Japanese irori, a sunken space in traditional homes where family and friends gather around a central fire to share peaceful moments and memories. Here, it has been translated into a large ceiling light while an elongated glass and steel table placed right below, flanked on one side by a metal-clad display wall. Additional merchandise is display on tiered wall-mounted shelving and in a recessed cabinet. A built-in LED screen featuring branded content adds a visual dynamic to the setting.
