‘bench_01′ is an experiment in efficiency by design studio Cradle. A collaboration between Jessye Grundlingh, Andrew Kroetsch, and Nicholas Koppelaar, the seating piece is made with the first cut of a tree. Often referred to as the ‘misfit’, the piece is often discarded. ‘bench_01′, as a system for design, questions what is waste, and what uses the doomed materials have. Minimal work was done to alter the wood, and only a few hours are needed to prepare the steel bench structure.
