Wave is a dining chair made of moulded laminated plywood. Its design is the result of a holistic, multi-layered approach in which visual identity, technology, construction, and production strategy are considered as a single system.
We follow the principle “no technology — no design.” During the design process, we explored the specifics of working with bent laminated plywood: pressing methods, permissible bending radii, CNC machining capabilities, types of fasteners, and finishing options. Our available technological capabilities allowed us to bend the plywood along a single axis. This excluded complex multi-planar forms and set the direction for the object’s visual identity. The search for proportions became one of the key tasks — it was important to create a chair that is expressive, comfortable, technically feasible, and at the same time not bulky. The name emerged from the wave-like lines shaped simultaneously by ergonomics and technology.
The chair consists of two elements: a seat combined with the legs, and a backrest. The backrest is made as a single-piece element of moulded laminated plywood with a complex geometry that is unique to this design. Assembly is intentionally simple: the backrest is mounted onto the base from above and fixed with a specially designed plastic component that ensures precise fitting and long-term durability of the joint. The fastening is done with bolts from inside the frame. Two disassembled chairs fit into one box measuring 50 × 50 × 50 cm,
