After opening up shop in Williamsburg and Nolita, French womenswear brand Sézane has landed on New York City‘s swanly Upper East Side. The flagship store, or L’Appartement in true Sézane parlance, occupies a street level unit on the premises of The Benson, a newly built luxury residential structure on Madison Avenue. The brand’s founder Morgane Sézalory has collaborated with Paris-based designer Pierre Lacroix to create settings that live up to the retail format’s name. This has resulted in a series of homey, distinctly French settings that evoke a welcoming Parisian home, featuring a meticulously balanced configuration of furnishings and objects, including vintage furniture and bespoke pieces, books, and artwork by Franco-American photographer William Klein, all set against a backdrop of white walls and seemingly woven, timber panelling. The front section feels like an intimate boudoir, furnished with elegant counters with marble tops, a cushioned timer stool and a dramatic pendant lamp with a tassle. A mirrored doorway leads to a larger room where the full apparel collection is presented on wall-mounted rails, while a wooden display table on an elongated rug showcases Sézane bags and shoes. At the far end, a room brimming with shoes and accessories.
