The Store is located in Swaziland’s second city, Manzini. Traditionally food retail only catered for the mass rural market, the Client’s vision was to offer an alternative shopping environment for the affluent population who use to travel to Mbabane or South Africa to shop. The brief from the Client was to design and build a Supermarket that the people of Swaziland could be proud of.

As the Store is a member of the Spar voluntary trading group, the layout follows freely the general group layout of Spar stores in South Africa. The ‘fresh’ departments became the focus point of the interior design, where we played with colours, lighting and warm natural finishes, creating an African delicatessen.

The signage in the store is a mixed bag of applications, giving an exciting youthful feel to the store. Sticking to the ‘Swazi pride’ brief we steered clear from using traditional ‘African’ themes, but rather embraced contemporary young design that reflect the current African generation.
