La Luma wine bar by Tecnam Progetti & Afa Arredamenti, Mantova – Italy

With its open frontage and use of warm colour and pattern, a zig zag motif is seen throughout, featuring on rafts, screens, flooring and upholstery. Rafts are placed at differing heights and playful angles, making the most of high ceilings and the bespoke copper lighting; designed especially for the scheme.

The seats are made out of fruit crates, the DJ booth is based on a truck that delivers fruit to the fresh market, while the tables are made from road signs. The kitchen and cashier areas are designed to look like market stalls, while the typography used throughout the club was inspired by the font used on the stickers that are ubiquitous to delivery trucks in Thailand.

Brass was used as eye-catchers for lights, hanger pipes, furniture knobs and handles, window frames, decorative screws, etc., in order to provide gorgeousness to the interior. The antique scaffold planks add a casual atmosphere to the space, preventing it from being too sophisticated.

The store was turned into a refreshing space with soft green color filled all around. Hiding in the historic neighborhood, the designer hopes that it could give a surprise to the people passing by. They could stop and relax for a cup of fresh juice, and then go back to daily life.

The color scheme was thought of as a dialogue between warm and cool colors: from the dark brown, almost black, to the bluish gray of the upholstery and wall finishes. The use of warm wood fiber, present on the flooring, the tables, the bar table top and wine table, along with the use of red Bordeaux for bar stools, perfectly complements and balances the whole color palette on a cooler note.

A secluded ‘members room’ tucked around the corner will allow diners the opportunity to host a private celebration in a characteristic lounge with a private library feel.
