Deka Markt branding & store design by Twelve Studio, Wormerveer – Netherlands

Twelve have been working with Deka Markt in Holland since 2008, during which time we have helped to completely update their branding, communications, store design and printed literature. Deka Markt are the oldest supermarket chain in the Netherlands and as a family owned-business with over a hundred sites, one of the most successful and well-known.

Toronto’s latest TA-ZE store, at 120 Adelaide Street West, is only 800 square feet in size, but it is airy and uncluttered. TA-ZE is a chain of retail stores focusing on premium olive oils and related product.

This 15,000 square foot foodhall is situated in the basement of Causeway Bay’s high end Lee Garden fashion district. Our design fully utilises the dramatic impact of a five storey sunlit atrium which rises above the central part of the foodhall.

Chedraui hypermarket by Little, Guadalajara City – Mexico

Chedraui, one of the largest and most popular hypermarket chains in Mexico, needed to evolve its store prototype to be more competitive with multinational stores and to provide a better shopping experience for its customers. Through a design competition, Little was selected to create a sophisticated customer experience based on a progressive “less is more” philosophy that focused on highlighting products and improving store communications.

Longo’s Brother Fruit Market by Watt International, Toronto

Breaking the stereotype of brightly lit, sterile grocery spaces, Longo’s is warm and inviting with Caesar stone countertops, dark walnut finishes, and sandy porcelain-tiled floors. Energy-efficient compact fluorescent and high-bay fixtures were used for both general and ambient lights, with incandescent used only for highlighting features.

Star Market at Chestnut Hill by SUPERVALU, Newton – Massachusetts

With input from design, engineering, and project management in the pre-design phase, this 53,514-square-foot store raises the green bar for supermarkets with 100 percent LED lighting, 90 percent off-grid energy consumption, and GreenChill Platinum-Level certification.

Tsvetnoy Central Market by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, Moscow

Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands’ design-driven interior reinvents the traditional market in Moscow, Russia. If you take the escalators to the top of Tsvetnoy Central Market, a luxury department store in central Moscow, you are greeted by a buzzing food hall filled with fresh produce, hot food counters, cafés, bars, restaurants and three outdoor terraces with breathtaking views.

Lotus Fresh flagship store by HEAD Architecture, Shanghai

Lotus is a well established brand in China with 70 supermarkets across the country. In an effort to appeal to discerning shoppers in the Pudong area and to compete with the many new luxury food brands moving in to the Shanghai, Lotus commissioned HEAD to develop a new flagship store transitioning from 100% local brands, toward a larger component of foreign products and services.

Architectural computation is generally promoted in relation to high-tech building systems and iconic towers. Earl’s Gourmet Grub is a test case in how computational architecture can enrich everyday use.

Fauchon food shop by Christian Biecher, Paris

Designed by architect/designer, Christian Biecher, the store has a bakery, a caviar bar, cafe and a wine tasting area called The Counter. With a mix of materials, including woods, metals for reflective high shine and some haute pink and polished finishes, Biecher has all the ingredients for any foodie’s gastronomic adventure.
