Thinking outside the box, Nespresso’s coffee capsules were combined with the fall fashion trends of 2010 in a display of prˆt-a-porter fashion. Taking the colorful capsules used to hold Nespresso’s product, about 4,000 capsules, and following the styling by well-known fashion designers that appear in the mall merchandise, designers turn their own cotton canvas into a fashionable gown and bowtie.

World Basketball Festival Display at NikeTown, New York

In promotion for this week’s inauguration of the first ever World Basketball Festival, Nike coordinated the momentous task in converting several key retail locations in New York City to the theme of the festival. This included NikeTown of New York, the flagship store of Nike. In keeping with original premise of the store as a faux basketball arena, Nike retail space designers re-imagined NikeTown to be an actual basketball arena.

In order for such a simple concept to be successful the composition of the props and clothing/accessories has to be carefully thought out. What both brands have done is used the height of the window display to products at different levels.

Holt Renfrew, a department store in Canada that is paying tribute to bloggers in the form of window displays. This window display is for “Sea of Shoes” which is Jane Aldridge’s blog. Jane Aldridge is a fashion designer and blogger from Texas. Her site, Sea of Shoes, is among the most influential style blogs in existence.

Visual Merchandising contest with students and ALU

A selection of students from JAK Akademie for Fashion Design in Hamburg, are in a visual merchandising contest. Students were asked to create 10 different window displays based on a theme they are given for that day. They are working with merchandising fixtures provided by ALU.

Levi’s Whirlpool Sculpture by Ian Mcchesney

Coinciding with the launch of the Levi’s® Water<Less jeans – made using significantly less water, this sculpture is based on water and fluidity – over 100 pairs of jeans are fixed together in the form of a giant whirlpool. The piece uses 120 pairs of jeans riveted together using over 1000 copper rivets.

Maison Hermes Window Display by Tokujin Yoshioka, Tokyo

Maison Hermes in Japan is experimenting with a shop front window art installation designed by Tokujin Yoshioka and produced by Satoshi Asakawa. Each window shows a Hermès scarf apparently being blown about by the breath of a Japanese actress. The illusion is achieved by venting air from a small hole in the wall near the mouth in the printed image.

Macy’s Flower Show

For two weeks in March, Mancy’s becomes „ the largest garden in existence” with the Brodway windows and the entire street level of the store transformed. This yearly event -now in its  35th year – is a year long projekt that culminates in March , fresh and in full bloom. We are plased to show here scenes of the 34th Flower Show.

Gone but never forgotten!! From the files of yesteryears we recall these swim suit windows that were especially admired—and talked about. Sure! Some of the bathing suits may be dated but the presentation concepts are still valid and ready to be adapted to new uses with newer merchandise in today’s windows.
