A comfortable balance of forms, spatial layout, and material relationships was sought in response to this, studying of the history and future of Media and how architectural intervention could convey the interconnectedness of that subject matter as well as the interests of the client.

The largest of the stores at 16,000 square feet, it features sales on two levels and stock on a third. A sinuous blackened steel stair connects the retail levels and brings natural light into the ground floor space.

The material of recycled wood found on the exterior of the hotel has a weathered look to it, even showing worm holes, allowing the hotel to connect to the adjacent buildings, such as the historic Orange Inn which was established in 1931. The other material of corten steel has an earthly quality to it, which channels the beautiful land and attitude of Laguna Beach residents.

The goal of Aaron Brothers’ new concept, Artist’s Spirit, is to elevate art supplies, a growing category for the custom and do-it-yourself framing retailer. Polished concrete floors, fixtures on industrial wheels, and hand-hewn accents give the 7,425-square-foot store the feel of an urban artist’s loft.

An indoor garden with native and adaptive plants will filter the office air and create a connection with nature. The garden will be watered and maintained by employees. In addition to the interior garden, a vegetable garden will be grown in the office’s “backyard,” which faces a residential development.

LEGOLAND hotel, Carlsbad – California

The façade of the LEGO hotel may not be made of plastic bricks, but it is decked out in decorative color blocks, setting the stage for the LEGO love inside. Guests will be greeted by a giant LEGO castle in the lobby, perched on a cliff under a ceiling painted like a cloudy blue sky.

Against a canvas of white walls, a white exposed ceiling and, in some areas, white floor tile, we placed sharp graphics calculated to arrest the eye. Red patterns created by our environmental graphic designer give forward momentum to a series of long, low walls.

The concrete furniture stands in immediate contrast to the white existing building. In the center aisle, a large communal dining table acts as a more public dining space, while large monolithic concrete booths provide a more intimate dining setting.
