An indoor garden with native and adaptive plants will filter the office air and create a connection with nature. The garden will be watered and maintained by employees. In addition to the interior garden, a vegetable garden will be grown in the office’s “backyard,” which faces a residential development.

LEGOLAND hotel, Carlsbad – California

The façade of the LEGO hotel may not be made of plastic bricks, but it is decked out in decorative color blocks, setting the stage for the LEGO love inside. Guests will be greeted by a giant LEGO castle in the lobby, perched on a cliff under a ceiling painted like a cloudy blue sky.

Against a canvas of white walls, a white exposed ceiling and, in some areas, white floor tile, we placed sharp graphics calculated to arrest the eye. Red patterns created by our environmental graphic designer give forward momentum to a series of long, low walls.

The concrete furniture stands in immediate contrast to the white existing building. In the center aisle, a large communal dining table acts as a more public dining space, while large monolithic concrete booths provide a more intimate dining setting.

We created classic Vintage denim racks and clean arauco plywood tables, rough sawn white oak shelving and stacked plywood wall hooks. We completed the one night installation with some hand painted logos and the space transformation was complete.

Puma store by Nathan Lee Colkitt Architects, Ontario – California

With numerous disciplines including researchers and scientists involved early on, this store‘s carbon footprint is 25 percent smaller than previous iterations, as certified by the Global Research Institute. A «design by subtraction” philosophy also yielded 30 percent lower energy consumption as well as fewer materials overall thanks to the lack of partition walls.

William Rast, the premium denim and contemporary sportswear brand, cofounded by Justin Timberlake and his friend Trace Ayala, unveiled its fusion of a Hollywood lifestyle with Tennessee roots in three California stores that opened Nov. 1, heralding the launch of 40 to 50 units by 2012.
