Seven Coffee by dongqi Architects, Changzhou – China

The interior space is an overall “L” shape space. Coffee, craft beer and bakery zones take places separately in the three corners of the “L”. Coffee and craft beer zone have white ceilings and floors and the bakery zone is a space with black covered all surfaces. The black and white spaces is divided by the curvy ceiling edge and steel wire.

The design team specifically worked on the centrepiece bar, the bar back shelving and outdoor furniture, and the signage, all sponsored by Striped Horse. The rest of the interior was designed by the bar owner, Jurie Blomerus. The materials and lighting of the bar were chosen to complement the rest of Jurie’s interior’s raw and distressed finishes.

Due to the industrial appearance of the elements in the project, copper materials take the leading role, shaping up joints, ceilings, lamps, handrails and other design elements according to the nature of artifacts used during beer production, such as pipes and tanks.

The packaging design is linked to the French origin of the beer, using typography in an avant-garde style that communicates precision and symmetry, perfectly fitting to the sharp taste of the beer.

Representing craft with an enlarged logo and key brand messages, the top half of the label stays consistent to ensure a recognisable brand identify regardless of brew. The bottom half represents curiosity and can be adapted for each beer made, including the opportunity to write notes by hand.

M.B. Post Restaurant by SJ Jones Architects

From the 1950s until the 1970s, the Manhattan Beach Post Office doled out mail to the local residents and was often a good place to see your neighbors. Now the location is an even better place to meetup as it houses the M.B. Post Restaurant, a hip new restaurant serving up tasty tapas plates and craft beer created by executive chef David LeFevre. Accompanying the well reviewed menu is a modern yet homey interior designed by SJ Jones Architects, who aimed at keeping with the original feel of the post office and the town vernacular by using vintage decor and reclaimed wood.
