Fendi Flagship store, Tokyo – Japan

The most striking piece arguably is a colourful fur tree by renowned Japanese floral artist Makoto Azuma that’s suspended like a chandelier from the ceiling near the entrance, and which is a renewed collab since the much-publicized launch of the Fendi Pop-up store also in the Ginza neighbourhood one-and-a-half years ago.

Amidst the current retail frenzy, the house of Hermès has also raised its profile, relocating its boutique in the swanky neighbourhood of Belgravia a few blocks down the road to premises almost double the size. It’s set across two floors of a listed 1950s building, and the interior design by Paris-based architecture practice Rdai is predictably lavish and elegant.

Louis Vuitton store renewal by Jun Aoki and Peter Marino, Hong Kong

The back splash to the ornate sink was gilded in gold leaf to add to the luxury feel. Sumptuous curtains cover the windows and a vinyl of the company logo adorns one wall, which faces a wall of brass picture frames filled with black and white imagery of Hungarian architecture.

The retail space expresses the theme of a luxury resort, boasting a warm atmosphere thanks to the use of natural materials — primarily wood — used throughout. The French-born, Japan-based creative turned to his previous work on the waterfront CABaN café, lounge and terrace, by employing the palettes he used in that build to construct the supporting columns found throughout the lifestyle shop.

The designs were heavily influenced by the surrounding terrain. In the stone-themed rooms, the grey walls and floors are wrapped in local stone, which varies in colour, cut and texture. Oak panels in the wood-themed rooms were made of trees harvested from the nearby Graubünden forests.
