Students at Coventry University have no reason to skip study sessions in their welcoming new student centre. In the campus’ heart, the building has been created in response to students’ needs for wellness. Also dubbed as the ‘Hub,’ the new building provides a clean, safe, social and informal learning area that is capable of accommodating 1000 students at any time.
‘It’s a fusion of library and common room,’ says Russell Brown of Hawkins\Brown. ‘If the Hub as a whole is “home from home,” informal learning is the “living room” for the campus.’ The building spans 8950-sq-m and has been created in response to the growing trend of students living with their parents and commuting to university. The Hub, therefore, is a place where students can pass time between lectures, socialize, relax or study privately and in groups.
