The Reiss store in LA, located on Robertson Avenue, at the base of the Hollywood hills, extended the brands stable of sites in suitably ambitious style. Embracing the conversely stark, plain characteristics of the iconic city, the store hinges on the relative blank canvas of its virgin territory (the almost clinical contours, enormously spacious interiors and larger than life dimensions) allowing plenty of opportunity for design innovation.
This comes in the form of the design of the outer glass layer, which dominates the frontage, and is punctuated by a sweeping layer of large-scale, back lit pixilation-style graphic patterns (the gaps in the design grant visibility directly into the store and office spaces on the interior) which have been engineered specifically so that the shift between the day & night causes the direction and power of the shafts of light to change the dynamics of the interior. By day, the store is a supremely confident statement in slick, LA styling artfully touched by intricate play between light and shade. By night, it’s a glowing cube – a 3-dimensional homage to the brand itself.
