BACKSTAGE café-bar is a part of the NHK urban cultural center built in the mid-70s. During the years the cafe has undergone various design metamorphosis, all inconsistent with the function and the architecture housing artists across the country and abroad. Think Forward sets the task of creating an interior, conceptually and contextually adequate to the cultural identity of NHK building , ensuring sustainable design.

The inspiration for the project comes from the space that truly captivates the artistic spirit – the backstage. Think Forward receives carte blanche to create a total concept of the café-bar – from its name to the table prints. Within three months the team brutally erases every shadow of the previous interior and transforms the space according to a few simple backstage constants: raw techno-industrial space; specific stage lighting; theater props and machinery.
