Aesop store by Brooks + Scarpa, Los Angeles – California

August 25th, 2014 by retail design blog

Austrialian luxury skin care company Aesop has been commissioning international architects and designers – from Torafu Architects to NADAA, Schemata Architecture to Cheungvogl – to envision bespoke interiors for their global retail shops. Brooks + Scarpa joins the roster, with ‘Aesop DTLA’, the brand’s largest store to date. Located on the ground floor of the 1929 Eastern Columbia building in Los Angeles’ historic theatre district, it sits adjacent to the orpheum theatre.

The California-based firm has envisioned the space to complement the neighbourhood’s culture, where empty bolts of fabric are strewn about costume shops and fashion houses. They have used 6-inch round cardboard tubes to construct the partitions and furnishings throughout with the warm, neutral palette complimented by recycled paper counter tops, vintage style product testing sinks, and the original natural concrete floors of the historic 1929 structure left intact. Overall, the downtown LA Aesop shop boasts an atmosphere that is comfortable and unobstrusive, while capturing views of the bustling streets beyond.
