The palette includes lampe gras lamps, woven metal partitions, and classic 1950s materials such as Formica, referencing not only leading french designers such as Jean Prouvé and Mathieu Matégot, but also two important periods in Parisian history: the late 19th Century and the 1950s.

Lovelace Hotel, Munich – Germany

The Lovelace features just 30 lofty guestrooms and suites on the premises, and these pair many of the structure’s original architectural detailing with plenty of modern comfort. The amenities include comfy Coco-Mat beds with matching organic bed linen, lounge chairs by Vitra, a Sonos sound system, free wifi, and site-specific wall decorations by local artist Florian Süssmayr add a cultural flavour to each pad.

Hyatt Regency Hotel Amsterdam by van Dongen-Koschuch, Amsterdam – The Netherlands

Both the interior and exterior spaces are protected from harsh weather, the prevailing winds, and sunlight. The Azores, empirically known for having the four seasons in just one day. The local materials – cryptomeria wood and vulcanic basalt stone, greatly responds to the site at issue – both climatic as well as territorial. The Hotel represents all site’s strengths.

The Nobu Shoreditch Hotel is housed in a purpose-built structure that was initially designed by Ron Arad, but later completed by Ben Adams. Featuring overhanging floor slabs, and cantilevered steel beams on one side of the five-storey building that form a frayed edge, where a landscaped garden is terraced to provide natural light to the lower restaurant space.

ONE@tokyo hotel by Kengo Kuma, Sumida / Tokyo – Japan

Conceived as an “Art exhibit”, ONE@tokyo is located in Oshiage — an area which combines the historic feeling of the country’s edo era with a lively sense of Tokyo’s modern metropolis. At ground level, Kuma and his team have installed a dynamic lattice of timber planks that refers to the factories found in the region’s downtown district.
