Located in the heart of Lisbon in a building over a 100 years old, Fabrica da Nata is famous for it’s Pastel de Nata (custard cream tart) which is one of the most popular pastries in Portugal. What was previously a restaurant now doubles as a bakery and café and the brief for Shopworks was to create a classic design with traditional elements to reflect Fabrica da Nata’s heritage.
Renowned as the place to go to buy these delicious pastries over 80% of the shop’s customers are tourists. With this in mind Fabrica da Nata wanted to recreate a décor reminiscent of the city’s traditional cafes as well as incorporating the bakery area where all the pastries are prepared and freshly baked on site.
The Shopworks design brought all these elements together to create a visual and sensory shopping experience where customers can see the pastries being prepared and then choose from three different seating areas from the bar with it’s aerial rail containing trays of the delectable custard cream tart to the tea room with blue sofa’s and banquettes which match the colour of the terazzo floor.
The antique chandeliers add a touch of class and the glass roof allows natural light to flood in. Teamed with dynamic window displays fronting on to a planned terrace area, Fabrica da Nata is established as the destination place for the Portuguese Pastel de Nata experience.
