Snøhetta has designed its very first lamp collection, ‘Flik flak’, in collaboration with the Swedish lighting company, Ateljé Lyktan. The collection comprises a wall-mounted lamp, a table lamp and a floor lamp, with all three lamps launched and exhibited at the 2018 Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair. Made from two wooden pieces of birch veneer, Ateljé Lyktan‘s ‘Flik flak lamps’ are discreetly held together by a piano hinge.
This flexible design allows the folds of the pieces to be opened and closed in a 180-degree angle. It carefully orchestrates the light to fit any room or setting in a non-intrusive, playful and creative manner. Designed by Snøhetta, this playful character reflects the old-school lamps of a childhood desk or the breakneck stunts of a trapeze acrobat. The collection further details on distinctive contrasts between light and dark, inside and outside.
Launched at the 2018 Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, while the wooden exterior surface of the ‘Flik flak’ collection is treated with black colouring in order to reflect the idea of darkness, their wooden insides have kept its natural, light colour, using dimmable LED strips to diffuse the warmth. Echoing the natural materiality of Scandinavian nature, the tactile qualities of the designs are emphasized by the coarse birch veneer.
