“MARUGO SHINBASHI” is a wine bar opened in Shinbashi area of Tokyo. I was required to appeal strongly in the busy and crowded downtown along Yanagi-dori and the openness and casualness of the wine bar. The request from the owner is “Neither Japanese nor Western”. Western elements are wine red tiles on the counter back and buttoned benches in the R-shaped counter. The copper panels used for Takaoka copper ware on the entire wall symbolize the Japanese style. Even with those elements, it would look calm and be hard to make an impression, I tried incorporating the mark ○, which is also a sign of Margo, into the interior to create an eye catch and a memorable device. Because it is a mixed city, I believe simple expressions became effective.
