It’s no secret that Virgil Abloh‘s sartorial focus is deeply rooted in streetwear and sports gear. Since his tenure at Louis Vuitton, the silhouette of the men’s collections has not only seen a dramatic upgrade, but also eagerly anticipated collaborations with influential entities from outside the luxury behemoth’s sphere. The latest collaborative effort is, quite expectedly, boldly basketball related. Since the brand forged a global partnership with the NBA earlier this year, the release of the first LV x NBA capsule collection has been a highly anticipated one. Needless to say, it’s an exclusive range of men’s apparel, both sportswear and dressy items, footwear, travel gear, and jewellery pieces, all bearing both the NBA logo and Louis Vuitton markings. In celebration of the collection, a section of the Louis Vuitton menswear boutique at Tokyo‘s Miyashita Park shopping centre has transformed into a full-fledged LV x NBA pop-up store. Signalling from afar, are the pop-up store’s window installations. White monograms are plastered onto the windows, offset by backdrops in red and blue, the colours of the NBA. Upon entering, shoppers are greeted by a large basketball visual, flanked by a basketball court-inspired setting, replete with realistic basketball goals, ball racks, NBA official balls, lockers and chairs.
