Following stores in Singapore and Bangkok, forward eyewear brand Gentle Monster has brought its highly evocative retail concept to Kuala Lumpur. Situated at The Exchange TRX, a large, newly opened upscale shopping centre featuring over 400 shops in the heart of the city, the store occupies a spacious 327 sqm. (3,522 sq.ft.) ground floor unit nestled in between the boutiques of Le Labo and Christian Louboutin, and features the brand’s signature interior design codes. A meandering backdrop of understated shelving units, which feature Gentle Monsters‘ many collections is interspersed with fantastical creatures crafted from different materials, including a rhinoceros statue, a seemingly autonomous blinking eye, which in fact can be seen in a few other Gentle Monster retail spaces across the planet, two life-size bisons flanking an inter-galactic object, and taking centre stage, is an abstract white sculpture placed on a contrasting anodised metal base and paired with a large LED screen presenting branded footage. The new Gentle Monster store carries the brand’s full optical collection, in addition to its sought-after collection of sunglasses.
