Situated in downtown Busan, the Shinsegae Centum City department stores first opened its doors in 2009. As part of one of South Korea‘s largest department store chains, it has since been the go-to luxury hub for discerning shoppers across the city and far beyond. A little while ago, the department store’s fourth floor, dedicated to young women’s fashion, has seen a major renewal which aims to resonate with the changing sensibilities of its savvy target demographic. The interior design, created by NBDC, a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Seoul, is themed Cosmosis, a contraction of the words ‘cosmo’ and ‘oasis’, referring to a cultural space where the stories of a vibrant city come together. Needless to say, the chosen aesthetic with its striking metal detailing, elegant swirling shapes and sleek furnishings add to a sophisticated visual narrative which is welcoming and aims to inspire at the same time. The space unfolds like a waterway, with a dense central ceiling that takes shoppers on a journey of constant circulation. The circular corridors create colourful scenes and draw them in without any boundaries, even to the corner shop-in-shops. © superfuture
