Meyer redesigned Bala Consulting Engineers’ headquarters in Wayne to meet WELL Building Standards™, creating an innovative, neurodiverse workspace with biophilic design elements, advanced monitoring systems, and integrated workplace technologies.
Meyer partnered with Bala Consulting Engineers to bring to life their vision of a destination headquarters that prioritizes employee health and innovation and supports a 100% in-person workforce.
Meyer, a national award-winning architecture and design firm based in Ardmore, PA, redesigned Bala Consulting Engineers’ Philadelphia headquarters according to WELL Building Standards™ to create an office space that showcases their brand and culture, promotes a healthy and safe environment, and highlights the day-to-day practices of Bala’s engineers.
The headquarters received WELL Certified™ Gold designation by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI™) in April 2024. The completely renovated, 21,500 square-foot office embraces the highest standards of neurodiversity and universal design in a thoughtfully designed workspace that fosters the health, connectivity, and innovation of Bala’s staff.
The space features ample access to natural light for all employees, biophilic design elements such as greenery and natural shapes, advanced monitoring systems that track and display air quality throughout the office, and daylight harvesting systems that combine with Power over Ethernet (PoE) lighting displays to meet Bala’s wellness and sustainability goals. A fully functioning Digital Twin of the office space was implemented to continually monitor internal conditions. A large café with gaming options and other amenities converts to a training and conference room for flexible gathering, and digital signage highlights messaging from all of Bala’s office locations.
Since Bala Consulting Engineers supports a 100% in-person workforce, it was important for Meyer to create a workspace that is as comfortable, productive, and welcoming to staff and clients as possible.
The latest workplace technologies, including high quality video conferencing cameras, room reservation systems, mobile AV capabilities, and conference room occupancy sensors, are incorporated throughout the space. The office also features high-quality acoustics and sit-to-stand desks that promote healthy movement throughout the day.
Meyer provided full interior design services for the Bala headquarters, including furniture procurement and branding throughout the space.
