Winner of the “Best Store Award” in the Design Category at MIDO in Milan

Our clients, Frits and Thomas van den Bosch, the well-known optician in Belgium Frits Van Den Bosch, won an award at MIDO, a prestigious optical trade fair in Milan (IT). Optician Van Den Bosch took home the “Best Store Award” in the ‘Design’ category. WSB Design was commissioned for the design and turnkey realization of the store’s interior.

Five years ago, Frits van den Bosch began his search for a better-located property that would optimally serve his target audience, with improved parking facilities. This led him to the former town hall of Wommelgem (BE). WSB was asked to help Optician Van den Bosch redesign and shape the large property, both interior and exterior.

The focus was on budgetary precision due to the scale of the project. The building was completely stripped, and the WSB team gave the exterior a sleeker appearance while retaining the solid concrete structure inside. An important consideration was visibility from the street, which led to the installation of a large skylight running from the front to the back of the store. The building was designed to be spacious and grand: a height of more than 6 meters was created across two floors. Shop-in-shops were created, each with its own identity.
