Hong Kong may already have a large number of design-led % ARABICA coffee parlours, but the company continues to see room for growth, opening its very first outpost at Hong Kong International Airport. Situated on the airside of Terminal 1, the café has been designed by Nguyen Khai Architects & Associates, a practice based in Huế. Perched on level 6 of the airport’s Departures East Hall, the design of the % ARABICA café is inspired by an aircraft cabin, featuring an orderly row ofn white curved bars. The design incorporates a service counter and kitchen right up front that accommodates customers carrying large luggage pieces when ordering, and a waiting bench on the opposite side. Left of the service counter, a window to the roasting room is placed for ordering beans. Further left, customers find the entrance to % ARABICA café’s seating area. Here, bar seating lines the floor-to-ceiling glass, allowing ample views of the plane-dotted tarmac. © superfuture
