Shinagawa is a Tokyo neighborhood that flourished historically as a gateway to Japan and now thrives as a gateway to the world. Representing Shinagawa’s crossing of people and cultures using crosses and weaving motifs in traditional Japanese patterns and latticework and showcasing its rare urban Japanese garden, the renovation project successfully resuscitates an established hotel.
A contemporary Japanese design based on the concept of “weaving”, traditional Japanese motifs and “sakura” were used throughout the hotel from the public area to the guest rooms, transforming Prince Sakura into a unique hotel with a Western system but the age-old, unique hospitality found in Japanese inns.
