As one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. year on year, life in Charlotte is good, and it comes with an increasing number or perks. The local shopping infrastructure has also seen a continuous growth, including in the upper segment, and the recent opening of Alexander McQueen‘s latest boutique in the city bears witness of this trend. The London-based brand has secured an elongated 279 sqm. (3,003 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of SouthPark, a large shopping centre where peers from fashion’s upper echelon have already set up shop. Flanked by the boutiques of Burberry and Tory Burch, the retail space has been designed by Alexander McQueen‘s in-house design team.
The setting is infused with light and dark hues of oak and walnut captured by floors, walls and displays. All have been intricately designed with seams barely visible, echoing the signatures central to the Alexander McQueen name. Traditional techniques upholding the brand’s values of excellent craftsmanship and the touch of the hand are juxtaposed with visionary design and innovation, and the latter is distinctly expressed by way of ‘cotton-crete’, a cotton-based papier-mâché cladding. The fitting rooms are cylindrical, reflecting light, and lined with specially designed fabric. The new Alexander McQueen store carries the brand’s women’s and men’s apparel, accessories, shoes and jewellery collections.
