Once merely a popular holiday destination, and one offering a tad more fun than leading Southeast Asian hubs Hong Kong and Singapore, Bangkok has bounced back in a big way after the pandemic, emerging also as a formidable rival to the more established high-end retail arenas of the latter two cities. The recent opening of One Bangkok, a large and prestigious complex of glittering high-rise towers overlooking the lush greens of Lumphini Park, has further added to the Thai capital’s stature. It’s here, where Singapore-based high-end retailer Club 21 has recently inaugurated its new flagship store. Occupying two units measuring a total of 462 sqm. (4,973 sq.ft.) set across two levels on the ground floor of The Storeys, one of the complex’s striking buildings, the retail space sees an interior design by local architecture practice Studio Krubka.

Inspiration is not only taken from the retailer’s adage The Anatomy of Luxury and Desire, and more specifically the term Anatomy, but also the fact that One Bangkok‘s very location once was home to a bustling marketplace. The chosen aesthetic not only lays bare the building’s concrete shell, but also seamlessly embeds it in the design to create striking juxtapositions of materials and styles. The premises are dotted with a slew of different custom-designed timber furnishings whose appearance have a distinct historic edge, adding both warmth and character to each setting. Although different and mixed with contemporary elements, the furnishings offer an immersive and cohesive narrative which elevate the shopping experience at the Club 21 flagship store.

The backdrop offers an intentional juxtaposition of both polished and raw surfaces, sometimes even featuring derelict concrete pieces, and all paired with the abundance of nooks, it adds an intriguing visual layering which seamlessly adapts to multi-brand offerings of the new Club 21 flagship store. Lighting comprises of rows of ceiling lights which have been embedded in the bare ceiling’s myriad of utility pipes, overlaid by a constellation of more functional suspended spotlights. The new Club 21 flagship store is a haven for a discerning demographic in search if forward-fashion trophies. The current brand list features men’s and women’s collections by coveted names, such as Fear of God, Sacai, Courrèges, THE ATTICO, Comme des Garçons, Nensi Dojaka and Rick Owens. © superfuture
