Coffee culture continues to evolve, and quite rapidly so, in pretty much all nooks of the planet, and yes, also in Yekaterinburg. Here, coffee parlour (PACK COFFEE) has just opened a second outpost in the city’s southern Botanicheskiy neighbourhood. Building on the design concept of the first café, the new one, on one of the area’s main thoroughfares, also sees an interior design assembled from readily available, ‘honest’ materials, but in a more coherent design and configuration, so it can serve as a blueprint of sorts for the company’s future cafés. Created by Dubai-based design practice THE11TH, the chosen aesthetic of this 45 sqm. (484 sq.ft.) space spawns from (PACK COFFEE)‘s quirky approach of its product range—flavour is shaped by precise parameters, from the weight of coffee and the temperature of milk, to the number of layers in a croissant. This logic is also reflected in the (PACK COFFEE) name as ‘pack’ references a milk carton containing a specific volume.

The aforementioned has resulted in a design concept, aptly dubbed Parameters, which takes the precision to prepare coffee and pastries as the starting point for the setting. Consequently, rhythm and modularity rule by way of square tiles, mesh grids and shelving compartments that form a system of repeating elements along the way, while also being simple units of measurement within the space. The same principle extends to the details, captured by the woven seat pattern of the chairs, designed specifically for the project. The utilitarian material palette is totally on point, comprising concrete, tiles and shiny metal. A large board behind the service counter presents the parameters for coffee and pastries alongside the number of milk cartons used, giving visitors an insight into what goes into the finished product. The menu at (PACK COFFEE) lists a variety of coffee concoctions, teas and matcha, in addition to a selection of freshly baked pastries. © superfuture
