There seems to come no end to the arrival of exciting new hotels in London, and we’re guessing that the city’s recent global exposure will instigate a second wave. La Suite West is a stylish new hotel that has recently opened in Westbourne Grove, just north of Hyde Park. A member of design hotels, the property occupies a row of 19th-century victorian townhouses and features 80 guestrooms and suites. The beautifully preserved classic façades conceal a highly contemporary interior, sleek and sculptural, and captured in a predominantly black + white colour scheme.
Upon entering the premises, the visual drama is imminent when a corridor of ink-black marble floors leads you up to an elongated white marble reception desk. The colour theme extends into each room, where dark, individually crafted, four-poster beds and black rubber chairs set off whitewashed rooms and airy marble bathrooms.
A subtle infusion of asian details, such as the black wood shutters, add depth and character to the minimalist design. The sleekness of each room is matched by modern technology, such as complimentary WiFi and a 32-inch flatscreen TV, and a set of luxe extras. Toiletries are provided by Molton Brown, and the fine linens and fluffy bath robes and towels come from Frette. Adding to la suite west’s happening vibe is an ultra-chic all-day dining restaurant seating 50 guests.
Helmed by chef Marcello Kaminski, the menu features dishes as sleek as the decorum itself, but also contains other unique options, created by Natasha Corrett of Honestly Healthy. For a more leisurely refuge, the hotel’s landscaped private terrace is perfect for drinks with friends or solo while checking urgent e-mails on your laptop.
