The new Antonios Markos store in Kolonaki, Athens follows a gallery-inspired design regime, directing the visitor as if they were viewing an exhibition.

Pierre Jorge Gonzalez and Judith Haase designed the architecture, lighting and furniture in this recent project, addressing the existing space and working within its constraints. Initially, the space resembles a minimalist gallery space. Large windows ‘frame’ pieces of clothing and create a relationship between the interior and exterior. Beyond this minimalism is a series of complex furniture designed through computer scripting, and these furniture pieces become almost like display objects themselves.

In response to their continual research about how unperceivable slight changes within a space can direct and change human behaviour, the designers have subtly introduced this idea within the design. The hanging bars holding clothes lead the visitor through the space, forcing a way to navigate through. The ground floor leads to the level above via a tunnel-like staircase, from which you can no longer view the ground below. Viewers must remember the space as they move through it, rather than see it from another view.
