Award-winning lighting design studio, Satelight offers a very special product as part of its exciting, curated focus on lighting as jewellery. Introducing Symbol. In an unusual pairing between space and jewellery, the Symbol light is inspired by the shape and style of stud and drop earrings, providing a beautiful point of difference with a unique narrative perfectly suited for retail, residential and commercial interior spaces.

“The Symbol is about creating objects that are big, bold and brassy but that offer feminine beauty in the detail,” Duncan Ward says, Satelight Design’s director. Bringing a touch of creativity and elegance, the light is available as Symbol Pendant and its sister light; Symbol Wall. The Symbol Pendant is designed to hang sideways, and has a hand-brushed brass, disc shape that reflects light from the light bulb to create a glorious halo effect.

To contrast with the front side of the dish, the reverse has been finished in hand-burnished black. It also has a beautiful brass detail that curves around it and holds it through the middle. The Symbol Wall features a timber insert that attaches to the wall, marrying the warm brass with a hardwood timber centre. “What’s beautiful about them is that when you cluster them, they have a gentle sway in rotation and a slight kinetic element,” Ward says.

The design concept is about creating lighting as objects that the house wears, in the same way the body wears jewellery. “What would happen if a house had these personal objects? That led to developing these little objects that then become the story of the house,” he says.

Once again, Satelight has partnered with local manufacturers, working with in-house techniques to produce each light, and they are both customisable and affordable. The pendant lights are pictured with gold-tipped LED globes, however a large range of different, eco-halogen, LED and filament lamp options can also be used. Satelight is planning on releasing other orientations in the near future to expand the collection.
