In the heart of Thessaloniki’s shopping area, the new Grigio store has been given a new identity as a multifunctional space by Athens based Block722architects+ headed by Katja Margaritoglou and associates. The contemporary design of the concept store occupies the ground floor of a multi storey building. The stripped back walls and concrete beams are painted white, as are the exposed heating and ventilation pipes, giving a positively industrial chic feel to the store.

The vast space stretches back from the entrance to a raised area on which is the cafe, furnished with retro metal tables and chairs, and beyond that an unexpected garden. A glass paned separation between the store and the cafe allows natural daylight to enter via the garden, the spaces of greenery throughout the store constantly merge the sense of indoor/outdoor in this urban space.

Throughout the store, surprising images confront the shopper, trompe-l’oeil prints have been used unexpectedly and objects have been employed in unconventional ways in order to create a unique shopping experience for the customer.

Design team: Katja Margaritoglou, Sotiris Tsergas, Konstantina Koligliati, Dora Felekou
