Patrick deWever, a former banker and master franchisee of the retail culinary gift store chain Oil & Vinegar, created a new look in chocolate retail. Together with a young and gifted patissier / Chocolatier he designed a great new concept in Chocolate Retail. As Patrick deWever states: “It is time we looked at chocolate in a new way, too long chocolate and retail has been overly traditional and stale with the result that young people were in increasing numbers turned off and the baby boomers felt that they looked like grannies with their chocolate gifts!”
Retail Chocolate Stores like Godiva, even with their new look still remains boring and too old fashioned and traditional and in my opinion still lacks the link to the 21st century. Chocolate Square (great name by the way!!) must have looked at Hotel Chocolat, London and surely also at some of the innovative Spanish chocolate retailers but still succeeded in creating a new and individually crafted retail concept.
A good segmentation in all ways of using chocolate blended with a nice feature that shows the tastes and distribution of the different variaties makes Chocolate Square a retail concept that works and an experience not to miss! Great colours and a clean, yet inviting fit out wants you to buy – especially their unique Cholate Squares @ Euro 2.00 each!! Great retail store, great taste and new look at chocolate retailing! More to follow, I am sure!
