Jakarta currently is Southeast Asia’s biggest boomtown, and a youthful demographic emerged that’s eager to test their entrepreneurial skills in the creative industry and retail, building a brand new infrastructure that benefits both their own lifestyle and those of their peers. In this light the Otoko. concept store recently opened its doors in the Indonesian capital’s business district of Senayan.
Founded by Sonny Dien, Zainal Had , Bonardy Sitompoel and Ditho Sitompoel, Otoko. initially started as a pop-up store in 2012 where the savvy foursome offered a sharply edited selection of premium menswear brands they weren’t able to find elsewhere in town. The Otoko. concept store is an ambitious step up, one that raises the bar in the city’s men’s retail scene.
It’s accommodated at fairgrounds SBCD, a lively spot amidst plenty of bars and restaurants, and a fav destination of hipsters, expats and young professionals alike. The new retail venture is infact a collab with local furniture brand Vie, and this has evidently influenced the store’s interior. The store has a spartan-chic look with an exposed ceiling marked by utility pipes, a concrete floor and a series of bold industrial lamps.
Obviously, the store is dotted with a variety of Vie’s stylish furniture pieces. So, what’s in stock at Otoko.? aiming to serve the savvy male shopper with a keen eye for contemporary style, the store stocks a cool mix of coveted brands, including apparel by A.P.C., engineered garments and bluesville, Yuketen footwear, shades by Moscot and sleek Braun timepieces.
