Mercato e Cucina is a 1200sqm Italian’s dream with a butcher, deli, grocer, bakery, wine cellar and restaurant. Mima Design were asked to develop a bare shell new-build environment on busy Victoria Road, Gladesville into an Italian provider. The owners of Mercato e Cucina wanted to create an exciting new destination for fresh produce, gourmet delicacies and dining, all housed under one roof.
The project had to include a 60-plus seat restaurant, pizzeria, bar, wine cellar, bakery, delicatessen, butchery, cheese room, dairy displays, fresh produce tables and dry goods shelving. It was a huge undertaking, but the Italian passion is unstoppable. Our aim was to provide a world class retail experience for discerning Italian foodies, whilst being approachable and family oriented. The owners pride themselves on making as much of the product on-site, such as take home meals, bread and even marmalade. It is all about good produce, simple and honest.
Concrete, brick, cracked stone, timber and glass with industrial feature tiles and copper details make-up the predominant material palette within the space. We love it, and hope you do too.
