French luxury brand Hermès has had a presence in Milan since 1987, but has now seized the opportunity to raise its profile even further with a prestigious new flagship store that replaces the shop on Via Sant’Andrea. The new store occupies a neo-classical building with a striking ochre façade of 600 sqm. [6,458 sq.ft.] spread over two floors. The interior design was executed by Paris-based practice RDAI, a longtime collaborator of the brand.
The ground floor features special flooring in terrazzo encrusted with glistening St.-Louis crystals, and it’s here where the men’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections are presented. A beautifully undulating staircase in Venetian stucco leads to the second floor which is dedicated to the Hermès jewellery and watch collection. Also presented here are the women’s ready-to-wear, equestrian, small leather goods, leather bags, homeware and tableware collections. Especially for the opening day, Hermès had flown in 16 of its highly skilled artisans and an exclusive collection of items that had been reedited for the occasion.
