For Australian film production studio Compulsive Productions, designer Matt Gibson transforms the open-plan office into a comfortable, functional working place that conveys the essence of the brand to visitors. Gibson was inspired by the clients’ love of vintage cameras; his design, therefore, alludes to historic photography and film apparatus. Throughout the interior, structures and materials refer to camera lenses, glass, mirrors and diaphragms, while the concept plays on the contrast of black and white – an interior atmosphere akin to that of a darkroom.
Located in Melbourne, Compulsive Productions offers graphic, post-production and audio-mixing services for the film industry. Its change of studio was paired with a brand expansion; the office now hosts collaborative in-house advertising agencies and freelancers. By rejigging the floor plan and making space available for external parties, Compulsive Productions is becoming a melting pot for creatives.
