In keeping with its magnificient position amid the rocky outcrops of a dolerite mound, Boulders feels as if it has been carved out of the earth. With views over the Sand river and surrounding plains, the design of the lodge is organic yet sophisticated, contemporary yet primitive – an outcome that was the product of a collaboration between architect Bruce Stafford and designers Boyd Ferguson and Paul van den Berg. Their desire to create a space that towers over its majestic surroundings whilst also being be a part of it, makes it feel more like a force of nature than a man-made abode.
