Blitz Architecture has completed the design of a new office space for Zendesk located in Dublin, Ireland. After designing the new San Francisco headquarters for Zendesk, Blitz developed a brand standard that could be deployed across all Zendesk offices to ensure design continuity. The new design language is demonstrated in the company’s new Ireland office; it shares the same geometries as the San Francisco headquarters but also adds design touches personalized to the Dublin location.

Blitz provided interior design services to freshen up the space, applying a clean, minimalist aesthetic and using the company brand attributes (“charming, humble, airy and uncomplicated”) as guidelines. The Danish concept of “hygge,” or coziness, also manifests in the wrapping form of the entry. A simple palette of crisp white and soft wood, with minimal insertions of the color green, reflects Zendesk’s brand standards of beauty and simplicity.

Although the Dublin office follows the same design direction as the San Francisco HQ, the Ireland location presented its own set of challenges. Located in a more recently constructed building with newer materials than the San Francisco HQ, the existing space was nevertheless neglected and felt closed in and monotonous. Blitz opened up portions of the ceiling to create a higher volume and expanded the vertical space to create height and depth.

This exposed the building’s heart and soul and added space to create a wrapping ribbon in the reception. Additionally, since the Dublin location experiences maritime weather and a higher ratio of gloomy days, it was especially important to find ways to maximize the daylight and airiness in the Dublin office. Glass walls add layers of transparency and extend sight lines across the space. Transparency in the interior corridors also allows daylight to travel farther into the office core.
